American movie posters come in a wide array of sizes and styles. Here are some examples of the more common sizes.
One Sheet (1 sheet - 1 sh)
This is the most common type of movie poster in the US. Those prior to the 1980s usually measure 27x41. Movie Posters after 1985 usually measure 27x40. Early one sheets were folded. Newer one sheets are typically sent rolled.
Insert (Insert Card)
An insert typically measures 14x36 and is usually printed on a thicker stock of paper. Movie studios stopped producing these in the early 1980s.
Half-sheet (1/2 sheet - 1/2 sh)
Half-sheets typically measure 22x28 (a horizontal poster.) Half sheets are rare in comparison with one sheets and even inserts.
30x40 (Thirty by Forty)
These movie posters (measuring 30x40) were printed on heavy card stock. They typically contain the same artwork as the one sheet.
Being printed in limited runs makes these posters even more rare.
40x60 (Forty by Sixty)
Movie posters measuring 40x60 are extremely rare. Only a few hundred of these large, expensive posters were printed at a time (and they were usually only printed once) which makes them a good collectible.
Subway / Two Sheet / 2 Sheet / 2 sh
This is a very rare size of poster measuring 41x54 most of the time. They're printed on a thicker card stock and were made to be placed on subway cars as advertisements.
Three Sheet / 3 Sheet / 3 sh
Three sheets are extremely rare 41x81 movie posters. They weren't created after the 1970s.
Six Sheet / 6 Sheet / 6 sh
A six sheet is a huge poster measuring 81x81. These are extremely rare. They're also cumbersome and hard to move/store.
Twenty Four Sheet / 24 Sheet / 24 sh
This is a large billboard sized movie poster that measures 9 feet by 20 feet.
Bus Stop / Bus Shelter
These movie posters measure 45x70. Because of where they're used, they usually contain bright, vivid and eye catching colors.
Movie Banner
Most movie poster banners range in size from 3' x 8' to 4' x 12'.
Window Card
Window cards measure 14x22 and are printed on a thicker card stock.
Lobby Card / LC
Lobby cards are small posters measuring 11x14 (horizontal). Although they're not used much anymore, when they were, they were released in series of 8 cards most of the time. There are also Mini Lobby Cards measuring 8.5x10.
Lobby Set / Lobby Card Set / LCS
This is a complete set of lobby cards (typically eight). They usually contain a Title Card.
Door Panel
Door panels measure 20x60. They're very rare and highly collectible. They're printed on both paper and card stock. They usually contain unique artwork different than the one sheet.
