The Film Booking Office of America (FBO), was started in 1920 as a distribution company for smaller, independent films. It was first called Robertson-Cole. In 1922, the name changed to the Film Booking Office.
In 1928, Joseph Kennedy (who had bailed the company out by investing money in 1925) merged FBO with RCA Photophone from RCA Radio Corporation of America to form the new movie studio Radio-Keith-Orpheum (RKO).
