Folding - While some older posters from movie companies were folded, the typical way to send them now is rolled into a tube.
Whether fold lines on your poster will affect the value of the poster depends on when the poster was released.
For example, pre-1980s, most movie stuios mailed out their posters flat. One-sheets were typically folded in half. Half-sheets were typically folded in half and then quartered. Etc.
So, folds in posters prior to 1980 aren't really considered a defect by most collectors.
After the 1980s, though, most movie studios began sending out their posters rolled up in tubes. Not all of them, though.
The movie studios used machines to fold the posters most of the time, ending up with sharp, crisp folds.
You can tell when a movie poster has been folded by hand. This causes damage to the movie poster (and a decrease in value.)
